God is God No Matter Where We Are
Ever get so excited because So-and-So was coming to the area, and God does this and that through So-and-So? I have. Recently, I had an inspiring conversation with a local church pastor about how people will actually hold off on requesting prayer because some famous, anointed minister was due to come to the area shortly. We talked about how so many times people get hung up on the power and anointing on someone’s life that they begin to lose faith that God could use them.
So sad! In our conversation, we chatted about how God sent ministry leaders to equip, impart, and activate the gifts in the people to do God’s work, not to bear the entire burden themselves. Great conversation. It got me thinking…we flock toward anyone who appears to have cracked the code and fill convention centers just so we’re in the same room and hope that maybe, just maybe, something will rub off on us.
First of all, I’m in NO WAY negating the incredible ministry and impact that someone with a high level of anointing can have. I have nothing but the utmost respect for their lives and the process they went through to get where they are. If you want a good biblical example, take a look at King David’s journey to the throne. When God places someone in a front and center position for the purpose of having an en masse impact, there’s a process He takes that person through. I myself have been blessed by the ministries of some of these individuals and have received blessings and impartations from God through their obedience. I am thankful for them and their ministries! They’re there because God put them there and the blessing that they and their ministries have are real.
That being said, when we attend these meetings, we always need to check our hearts. Who are we going to meet? A person? Or God? And if I’m going to meet God, sure, I can go to that famous minister’s session, but…can’t I also meet God in my local church? With my faith family? With my spouse and children? By myself? Do I need to go across the country to receive from God? Well…I suppose if God told me to go to a specific meeting or minister, then, yes. But in general? God is God no matter where I am.
If I believe that God is God everywhere, then I can also have faith that God can meet me and touch me in my own prayer times or at my own local church. We can’t possibly live going from revival meeting to revival meeting. We all have work and home responsibilities. If anything, those experiences should be seen as our highlight reel, not the foundation of our intimacy with the Lord. Both are wonderful but the role of each in our lives should not be confused.
The local church is our daily life base for edification, discipleship, and growth. Those revival meetings packed out conferences are special. They are a huge blessing! But let’s not discount or snub our local church where the leadership team pours countless hours into the lives of the people that gather there. They’re the ones that wind up elbows deep in “life” and walk side by side with us through the muck and the tears. Usually for little thanks, from my understanding.
So, I suppose, what I’m trying to say is, yes, we can celebrate the famous traveling minister or ministry team and receive blessing; maybe even an impartation or a supernatural healing, but we can also celebrate our local church leadership and receive blessing and maybe also an impartation and supernatural healing from them. We can also take steps of faith to be used by God to impart to others and see God work supernatural miracles through each one of us too because we don’t need to be called into full-time ministry for God to use us in amazing ways. If anything, those not called into full-time ministry have many unique opportunities to touch people that those in ministry may never get. Each one of us is called by God to reach out and touch others with what we have right where we are right now. Each one of us is also being drawn by God deeper into His presence right where we are right now. Because no matter where we are (or who we are), God can move and God can touch because God is God.
